Seawater Desalination Plant in Binningup
Construction Date: 2011
Geolocation: Binningup (Western Australia)
The plant is in Binningup, south of Perth. The SSDP is set back approximately 1.3 km from the coastline, and includes a ridge 8 m high which runs for 1.1 km around the southern and eastern peripheries in order to hide the facility from nearby residents and to reduce light and sound pollution.
A 220 m wide “wild corridor” has also been created between the plant and the beach to create space for fauna to move in, including the opossum native to the area.
