Over the last 35 years, thousands of professionals worldwide have contributed to making Sacyr into the company that turns challenges into successes.
Since its foundation, Sacyr has always sought excellence through innovation, the promotion of the best talent, teamwork, and sustainability. These are ingredients that have guided a business project that remains true to its principles: commitment, excellence, and team spirit.
In these 35 years, our company has grown from a small developer of public works in Spain to becoming a global company, with a focus on P3s and with two powerful construction and services divisions. In this time, we have worked in more than 30 countries on four different continents.
Continuous innovation
Innovation has been a constant for us throughout these 35 years. We spur innovation to minimize the impact our projects have on the environment, to reduce carbon emissions, to consume less energy, to reduce the water footprint, to recover waste to reincorporate it into the production chain.
Innovation has been present in our corporate values from the start and continues to be a reference in our 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. This plan propels us into the future by focusing on the sustainability of our activities and promoting the talent of our professionals.
Such talent has helped us to overcome hardships, and now it will allow us to continue consolidating our profile with a focus on P3s and the utmost commitment to all our stakeholders.
Business molestones
Throughout the past 35 years, Sacyr has spoken through the project it has developed in P3s, construction, and services.
That is the case, for instance, of the Third Set of Locks of the Panama Canal, the greatest challenge we have met. This mega-structure has reduced CO2 emissions by more than 160 million tons per year and saves 60% of the water used.
Over these three and a half decades, we have built more than 3,900 km of highways, 1,760 km of roads, 70 km of tunnels, and more than 150 km of viaducts. We currently manage and operate some 4,500 km of roads through our subsidiary Sacyr Concesiones.
Among the bridges built by Sacyr, the most outstanding is the Pumarejo bridge over the Magdalena River in Barranquilla, Colombia, 2,173 m long and with a 38.1 m deck. Since its commissioning in 2019, it has become one of the most emblematic infrastructures in Latin America.
We are specialists in the hospital sector; we have added more than 10,000 beds to healthcare facilities around the world. Some of them are under P3 schemes, as is the case, for example, of the Antofagasta Hospital, Chile, which assists more than 350,000 people.
We are leaders in water treatment, potabilization, desalination, and purification technologies. Our desalination plant in Perth, Australia has been recognized as one of the most innovative in the world.
We are an industry example in waste management and municipal services like street cleaning, waste collection in Madrid and Bogotá; the management of facilities and buildings, with contracts in the Metro de Santiago and Metro de Madrid; the maintenance of infrastructure, with more than 14,000 km of roads in seven different countries; and care programs for people with special needs, management of nursing homes, and disability care. Cafestore is our restaurant and catering brand that serves emblematic places like the Congress of Deputies of Spain.
