On Friday, September 4, economic bids were opened for the Second Concession of Route 57 Santiago - Colina - Los Andes, with Sacyr Concesiones selected for the contract award, subject to completion of the administrative stages established by Chile’s Ministry of Public Works.
The initiative is one of the most significant road projects currently under tender in Chile. It will modernize the main route linking Santiago, the Province of Chacabuco and the city of Los Andes, a strategic corridor for domestic mobility and trade with Argentina through the Los Libertadores Border Complex.
The outcome enables Sacyr to apply its experience to a strategic project for Chile’s development.
Connectivity between the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions
The Second Concession of Route 57 will improve connectivity between the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions, strengthen a key passenger and freight corridor, and enhance international links through Los Libertadores. The project reflects a commitment to developing modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure that creates value for users, communities and Chile’s growth.
The new concession covers more than 110 kilometers of road infrastructure, with an official construction budget of approximately €800 million, and includes comprehensive improvements to strategic passenger and freight transport infrastructure. Total revenue over the 20-year concession period is expected to approach €2.8 billion.
The project includes widening and improving the existing Route 57, upgrading Route G-71 and building a new connection between Route 57 and Route 5, as well as a new road in the eastern sector of Los Andes. It also includes works designed to raise safety, connectivity and service standards for users.
About the Second Concession of Route 57
Key works include adding third lanes in the busiest sections, building a new Chacabuco Tunnel alongside the rehabilitation of the existing tunnel, new pedestrian walkways, cycle paths, service roads and the implementation of electronic tolling systems.
These works will strengthen connectivity along a corridor that is essential to the country’s economic development and improve the integration of major routes within Chile’s road network.
According to the Ministry of Public Works’ planning, the initiative will help meet future mobility needs along one of the country’s most important logistics and transport corridors, consolidating infrastructure designed to support economic growth and territorial development in central Chile.
