We have built a photovoltaic plant for Repsol in Badajoz

Sacyr Industrial, in a temporary business association with Solarig (50%-50%), has overseen the construction of the photovoltaic plant that Repsol runs in Valdecaballeros (Badajoz). Furthermore, we will supervise its operation and maintenance for two years, extendable for another three.

The plant has a 263.7-MW power capacity, 5,714 solar trackers, and 648,000 photovoltaic panels across 563 hectares, divided into five large areas. This intricate system connects to the network through a new 400 kV electric power station, also part of the project.

The facility has initiated test production and is expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2021. The plant will supply power to 140,000 homes, or approximately 350,000 people, which equals the combined population of Badajoz, Cáceres, Mérida, and Plasencia, the four most populated cities in Extremadura.

This renewable energy source will avoid the emission of 211,564 tons of CO2 per year. 2,400 people have participated in its construction, 25% of which are from Extremadura, the company stated in a press release.

This is Sacyr Industrial’s second experience with this technology based on solar trackers. The previous one was in Picon (Ciudad Real), a Naturgy plant with a 90-mW capacity.
