General director of water Asturias makes institucional visit to Boal WWTP (Asturias)

  • Sacyr Water developed this wastewater treatment plant, providing service to 1,600 people.

On World Water Day, multiple personalities from the Asturian political scene made an institutional visit to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Boal, Asturias, including Vanesa Mateo, General Director of Water Asturias; and Manuel Gutiérrez, Manager of the Consortium of Water Services in Asturias (Cadasa in Spanish). The WWTP facilities were developed by Sacyr Water

Sacyr completed this WWTP build In November 2023, with a €5 million investment, and is already operational. This facility provides service to 1,600 people and processes up to 36m3 of wastewater per hour.

The new WWTP includes a pre-treatment line equipped with a stormwater detention vault, and two biological treatment ponds, as well as a tertiary filtration treatment line for sludge treatment using thickeners and centrifugation.

The main WWTP features include the biological treatment system which consists of two reactors with biodisc technology, preceded by a primary digester, where organic matter is degraded, and sludge is settled and purged to a thickener. Additionally, the plant has two clarifiers with a diameter of four meters each, ensuring the quality of the effluent.

Furthermore, the WWTP will allow for water reuse in auxiliary services, eliminating the need for potable water in the process.
