Sacyr to expand the Dahshour gas compression station in Egypt for $99 million

  • Sacyr Fluor will improve the energy efficiency of the station by recovering waste heat from the gas turbines to produce electricity

Sacyr Fluor, a subsidiary of Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructure, will perform engineering, procurement of materials and equipment, technical support during construction and training for the expansion of the Dahshour gas compression station for the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), the state operator of Egypt’s gas network.

The expansion of the facility, which is located south of Cairo, will require an investment of close to $99 million (around €80 million) and will have a contract execution period of 18 months.

Specifically, Sacyr Fluor will increase the facility's gas compression capacity by 50% (652 MMSCFD). It will also introduce state-of-the-art technologies to recover waste heat from the gas turbines to generate electricity. This energy will power the compression station and reduce CO2 emissions.

Green Economy Transition (GET)

This project is part of the “Green Economy Transition” (GET), a program launched in 2015 by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), whose aim is to support the countries in which it operates, like Egypt, in adopting environmentally friendly development models in order for instance to improve the sustainability of gas transmission.

The state-owned operators, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and its subsidiary Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), are financing energy efficiency programs in the oil and gas sector through a $200 million sovereign loan from the EBRD to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

New projects

In addition, the Company has recently secured other projects in different areas, such as the REPSOL contract awarded to Sacyr Fluor to develop detailed engineering and technical-commercial support in supply management for the Hydroprocessing Unit, which constitutes the core of the company’s 2G Biofuel Production project to be built at its Cartagena Refinery.

Sacyr Fluor

Sacyr Fluor was created in 2015 when Sacyr acquired 50% of the Spanish subsidiary of the engineering multinational company, Fluor Corp., active in Spain since 1989. In June 2020, Sacyr acquired the remaining 50%.
