Today Sacyr Environment has begun to provide the urban cleaning and collection and transport of waste service from the Biscayan municipality of Barakaldo. The contract has a duration of four years, renwable for another two years, and a total amount exceeding 35 million euros.
The new service includes several improvements such as the reinforcement of the cleaning service in all neighborhoods and the gradual extension of the implementation of the "fifth container" for the selective collection of organic waste.
The contract is committed to sustainability, so that the entire fleet of vehicles and machinery will be replaced with much more eco-efficient ones, the new vehicles and machinery will be powered by compressed natural gas or electricity that will pollute less and will be much more respectful with the environment. And so waste collection is planned to be carried out with trucks powered by natural gas, which will significantly reduce noise and gas emissions, while also incorporating 2 electric sweepers and 16 electric transport vehicles that will not generate any emissions.
Likewise, the technological innovations of on-board computing allow the self-diagnosis of the equipment and the transfer of work and operation data in real time.
A backlog of more than 3 billion euros
With this new award, Sacyr Environment strengthens its waste collection and street cleaning services business, that it has in almost 600 municipalities in Spain and Colombia and that represent a backlog of more than 3 billion euros, serving a population of over 5 million citizens.
