Yesterday, Pedro Alonso, Executive director of the Sacyr Foundation, and Beatriz García, Second Vice-president of FUNDAZ Paixena, signed a collaboration agreement to promote training, assistance, and research in palliative care.
The goal of this agreement is to support the creation of the FUNDAZ Paixena Palliative Medicine Institute in Zaragoza. This institution will collaborate with the Health Authorities of the local Gobierno de Aragón, and other organizations to provide better healthcare assistance and care for advanced or terminal diagnosis patients and their families.
The healthcare assistance area will create an at-home care unit with a palliative care at-home care group, who will assist terminal patients under medical supervision.
As part of the social and healthcare area, a social work and healthcare assistance center will be established under the name Casa de Cuidados FUNDAZ Paixena (CCFP). This center will provide care to children and young people with chronic or advanced diseases, allowing them to receive the necessary care in an environment as close as possible to a home. Additionally, patients’ parents will have the opportunity to acquire skills for home care. The center will also cater to adults affected by complex chronic diseases requiring ongoing palliative care.
A Pediatric Palliative Care Day Center and a Residential Center will be established within the same facility for the same purpose. The Residential Center will also include a Unit for adults affected by complex chronic diseases that require ongoing palliative care.
The home palliative care team is comprised of a doctor and a nurse and will have capacity for 25 patients. The Care Home, once built and operational, will also serve 25 patients in the Pediatric Day Center and 50 in the Residential Center.
The institute and at-home care unit are expected to be complete in late 2023 and launched in early 2024.
