The consortium comprising Sacyr Concesiones (70%) and Cointer (30%) has taken over the operation and management of Atacama Airport (Caldera, Chile).
Last September, Chile’s Ministry of Public Works awarded the Northern Airport Network of Chile P3 project bundle, encompassing the Atacama and Antofagasta airports. The contract has a maximum concession term of 26 years and calls for an approximate investment of €260 million for both airports. Including this infrastructure, Sacyr manages five airports in Chile.
The consortium will carry out the expansion, improvement, and maintenance works at Atacama Airport, to improve service quality for an increasing passenger count. The airport currently serves over 720,000 passengers per year.
Four new boarding bridges
The consortium will increase the surface area of Atacama airport’s passenger terminal fivefold to 18,274 sqm. The project also includes the incorporation of four boarding bridges since the enclosure does not currently operate with this system. The expansion will increase parking spaces for commercial aircrafts will from three to five.
Works will begin in 2027 and the new facilities will come into operation in 2030. Atacama Airport welcomed 723,000 passengers in 2023.
