We renovated the Eresma highway using 15% recycled asphalt

We developed a discontinuous mix on the main section of the highway, incorporating 15% of the milled material from our own wearing course.

During the month of July, as part of the pavement campaign scheduled by the Eresma Highway P3 company, we assessed the available materials to design a mix with recycled asphalt for use in a 1,500-meter test section.

Our commitment to continuous improvement of our infrastructure has a sustainable focus. Therefore, we reused part of the existing pavement to rehabilitate the wearing course.

To incorporate 15% of milled asphalt into the mix, we screened and classified the materials, analyzing the condition of the aggregates and bitumen. After this process, we studied the results to determine the most suitable type and proportion of asphalt additive.

"We continue to work towards incorporating a higher percentage of milled material in the improvement and maintenance works planned for our highways," said Rafael Barrera, O&M manager of the Eresma highway, and the pavement department of Sacyr Concesiones.

This innovative process has been led by the team of the Eresma highway and the pavement department of Sacyr Concesiones. Additionally, other areas of the company and Padecasa collaborated cross-functionally to design the Working Formula, which resulted in better performance for the mix.
