Section 2 of the Carretera Longitudinal de la Sierra concession highway encompasses 875 km of national roads located in the regions of Cajamarca and La Libertad, in the north of Peru. La Sociedad Concesionaria, led by Sacyr, plans to invest 1.15 billion dollars. Not only will this investment improve the concessional infrastructure; it will also create jobs and promote economic activity throughout the whole region over the 25 years of the project.

As part of this P3, we are undertaking three types of task: Repair and Maintenance to improve the road, repairing its surface, widening the roads and laying new road surfaces, building bridges, works of art, and road signage. Initial Periodic Maintenance to ensure the road meets the service levels stipulated in the contract. Operation and Maintenance to conserve the road, deal with road emergencies, clean up minor debris, and provide mechanical and health assistance.

Currently, the concessions company is building 90 km of completely new roads and, whenever necessary, it will carry out road conservation tasks in accordance with the strictest safety and quality standards in vehicle circulation.

Improving quality of life

This project is promoting commerce and tourism in the regions of Cajamarca and La Libertad, improving quality of life for the inhabitants there. This positive impact is also reaching the neighboring regions of Lambayeque, Amazonas and San Martin, by connecting towns in the Peruvian jungle with the north coast.

In fact, access to towns in the Peruvian jungle is better and faster today than it has been for years. Towns such as Chota, Jaen, Bagua and Cutervo are benefiting from the increase in commercial movement and access to supplies and assistance due to improved road conditions. Furthermore, inhabitants of this area no longer have to travel to coastal towns in order to reach Chiclayo, Tarapoto and Trujillo.

The new roads, which are wider and safer, are favoring the creation of direct routes to these destinations.

Renewable energy

In line with our sustainability policy, we are developing a Hybrid Solar System to save energy at the Menocucho toll, in the province of Trujillo. This system has 60 solar panels generating 34.4 MWh a year, reducing Co2 emissions by 8 tons.

We are also implementing other environmental and technological initiatives, such as the installation of a hybrid system at the Menocucho toll that uses solar energy and a natural storage system to reduce its carbon footprint and the emission of pollutant gases.

Furthermore, we are promoting the circular economy by donating a substantial amount of milled materials to be reused on neighboring roads in various districts and towns.

With regard to our social commitment to local communities, we are running several training programs for children, parents and teachers to raise awareness among nearly 4,000 school children about road safety, hygiene, health, and environmental conservation.
