Today, Sacyr Water starts the operation and maintenance at the Carboneras desalination plant (Almeria). This contract includes the design and build works on the project to improve the facility’s energy efficiency. The project is valued at €29.7 million and has a 48-month deadline.
This Acuamed contract has Next Generation EU funding and ensures reduced energy consumption rates and an extended life cycle for the equipment, unlocking the possibility to increase production.
The Carboneras desalination plant is operational since 2005, featuring a 120.000 m3 daily output capacity. These facilities have 12 production lines with Pelton turbines. However, current technology is capable of greater energy savings through isobaric chamber systems. This system was implemented in two of the 12 lines in 2016.
By installing the new equipment, the 10 remaining production lines will be condensed into five with twice the output.
Cuevas de Almanzora DWTP
Currently, Sacyr also develops the improvement, adaptation, and commissioning works on the Cuevas de Almanzora Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP).
The DWTP is designed to achieve a 1,480 m3 output per hour, which improves water quality and the supply system.
