The Estadio da Luz stadium, owned by the Benfica soccer team, was built by Somague between 2001 and 2003. This emblematic venue has a total capacity of 65,000 spectators, as well as a pavilion and retail area.
The structure is made from reinforced concrete and encompasses a colonnade of porticoes, distributed radially, pre-fabricated frames, support and placement of pre-fabricated pre-cast core slabs. The metal roof structure is covered with polycarbonate.
The Estadio da Luz regularly hosts major European soccer events. It hosted the final of the Champions League in 2014 and 2020, and the European Championships in 2004.
