Sacyr Somague built the Foz Tua dam, together with other companies, in the north of Portugal. This hydroelectricity plant, owned by EDP, the largest electricity group in the country, opened in 2018.
The project entailed building a concrete arched dam, 108 meters high with a 275 m crest. Furthermore, a hydroelectricity plant cavern was built with two reversible generators and a total power of 250 megawatts (MW).
At Foz Tua, we used Building Information Modeling (BIM) as another working tool in the planning and construction of the dam, as well as to control and optimize the management of materials and auxiliary structures.
On account of its innovation and excellence, the project won The Year in Infrastructure 2018 award in the category Energy Generation.
