In 2023, the Spanish office of the Global Compact launched the first edition of the "Sustainable Suppliers" training program.
The program is an international training project that helps SME suppliers become familiar with corporate sustainability, using the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a reference.
Additionally, the program assists them in prioritizing working areas in sustainability, setting real, measurable, and achievable objectives for the company, and identifying target areas that the company can prioritize according to its size, type of activity, and sector.
In the first edition in 2023, 21 SME Sacyr suppliers registered, 40% of which almost completed the program. In 2024, 35 more supplier companies have joined, gaining Sacyr the recognition as a "leading organization in supplier training" in the Global Compact's 20th anniversary celebration.
Globally, 17 large companies from 35 countries have participated in this program, along with more than 1,200 SMEs part of Sacyr's supply chain.
The role of the private sector in transforming supply chains is crucial to reducing Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect emissions not under the direct control of the company.
Supplier training leading companies are responsible for extending the invitation to participate to the SME suppliers in their global supply chains.
