The Sacyr – Cavosa – Grúas Tajadre joint venture will carry out the development and commissioning of a 7.6 km section of the LP – 1 highway between Los Llanos y Tijarafe, in the northwest of the island of La Palma, for the Consejería de Obras Públicas (Department of Public Works) of the Government of the Canary Islands within a 44-month deadline.
This project will simplify the current route of the road, taking the orography of the terrain into account, while respecting the environmental value of the area at all times. The improvement of the highway conditions will significantly increase the safety and communications conditions of this area of the island.
The main activities in this development include:
• The construction of a new 530-meter tunnel, to allow the road to pass through the southern the southern hillside of the Barranco del Jorado.
• Construction of a 95-meter viaduct over the Barranco del Jorado to allow access to the southern end of the aforementioned tunnel,
• Construction of two viaducts to bridge the crossings over the Los Gomeros and El Jesús cliffs, 84-meters and 81-meters long, respectively. The arrangement of these structures allows to shorten the route of the LP-1 highway by modifying the current layout to prevent traffic from going through two sharp curves.
This project is located in the northwestern region of La Palma and joins the other rebuilding and recovery developments in the island after the volcanic eruption.
