Sacyr has won the prestigious PFI P3 Deal of the Year for the financing of the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge project, in Louisiana, United States.
This project, awarded by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) to the Calcasieu Bridge Partners consortium formed by Sacyr, Plenary Americas and Acciona, marks a fundamental milestone in the development of infrastructure in Louisiana.
This is the second award won by this financing after The Bond Buyer in the Public Private Partnership category.
PABs Bond Issuance
The financing includes the issuance of tax-exempt "Private Activity Bonds" (PABs) totaling $1.333 billion (€1.222 billion). This highway section connects the towns of Lake Charles and Westlake over a span of nine kilometers.
This project will require an investment exceeding $3.37 billion (€3.09 billion), with construction costs estimated at $2.267 billion (€2.079 billion).
The project will connect the towns of Lake Charles and Westlake in Louisiana and includes a new eight-lane bridge with three traffic lanes and one auxiliary lane in each direction, the demolition and removal of the existing 70-year-old bridge over the Calcasieu River once traffic is transferred to the new structure, operation and maintenance of the new bridge, and toll operations, including a customer service center.
Construction of the bridge will begin in 2026, with opening planned for 2031, serving over 90,000 vehicles daily by 2040.
