The series on emblematic projects from our 40-year history takes us to Santiago, Chile's capital, for its fifth chapter.
There we visit the Américo Vespucio Oriente (AVO I), an urban highway that stretches nine kilometers.
This project, built between 2017 and 2022, provides a solution to Santiago's growing traffic and the city' s north-south connectivity. AVO I reduces travel times, pollution (both air and noise), and fuel consumption, thanks to its underground layout.
AVO I is a milestone in Sacyr's history because of the technical solution we applied in its construction. Two of the people who contributed to the development of this concession, Rosa Robles, then general manager of the Vespucio Oriente construction company, and Antonio Escribano, technical manager, explain the keys to this project in the video that accompanies this content.
"The value of AVO I for Chilean society is time," explains Rosa, who points out that the journey time has been reduced from 40 or 50 minutes to just 15. "This has an impact on quality of life," she adds.
