Sacyr selects five companies to address the challenges in its Sacyr iChallenges program

  • The finalist companies chosen in Sacyr's open innovation program come from Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom and Canada and respond to two business challenges: resilient infrastructures and circularity in water.
  • Those selected will work together with Sacyr business experts to develop pilot tests in real environments.

Sacyr has announced the five companies selected to address the business challenges launched last June as part of the seventh edition of Sacyr iChallenges, the company’s open innovation program

The companies, from four different countries, answered the Sacyr iChallenges call to address two challenges: climate-resilient infrastructures and circularity in water. They are Irmos Technologies (Switzerland); Mitiga Solutions (Spain); Ehab and Evove (United Kingdom); and EagleRidge (Canada).

The selected innovation agents were presented during the Sacyr Innovation Summit event and will participate in pilot project definition sessions with Sacyr experts and will share their proposals with the company's senior management.

The seventh edition of Sacyr iChallenges has once again put the focus on promoting sustainability. The programe issued two challenges to address various needs of its business areas: Technology innovations driving circular management in water treatment and Climate-resilient infrastructure

  • Resilient Infrastructure Challenge
    • Irmos Technologies: Advanced infrastructure monitoring solution. It combines SW and HW through sensors of various types (including in-house development of low-cost wireless sensors) and AI analysis to monitor the structural integrity of buildings and bridges, detecting invisible and unforeseeable internal damage.
    • Mitiga Solutions: EarthScan, Mitiga's solution, offers real-time analysis of climate risks such as floods, droughts and extreme temperatures, using artificial intelligence and advanced modelling to predict and manage long-term threats (up to 80 years in the future).
    • Ehab: Developer of a climate risk management platform designed to make the construction and infrastructure sector resilient to inclement weather.

  • Water Circularity Challenge
    • Evove: 3D ceramic membrane printing technology and enhanced coatings for graphene-based water filtration, which are combined with AI to optimize water separation and treatment processes.
    • EagleRidge: MicroPoP's proprietary technology breaks the cell walls of microbes into WAS solids (activated sewage sludge), solubilizing them for aerobic or anaerobic digestion, reducing sludge production by almost 100% and increasing the potential for biogas generation, which increases the profitability of the plants.

Sacyr iChallenges, a benchmark in the innovative ecosystem

Sacyr received 145 proposals from innovative agents from all over the world in this seventh edition of the Sacyr iChallenges open innovation program. The program confirmed its international projection with proposals from more than 30 countries that represent 75% of the total.

Since the program began in 2018, more than 20 pilot projects have been successfully implemented
