The international organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has recognized us as one of the 16 Spanish leading companies in the Supplier Engagement Ranking 2021, a study that the CDP elaborates every year about climate action throughout the supply chain. This ranking assesses companies’ actions to reduce emissions throughout their supply chains.
CDP is a not-for-profit charity that measures the completeness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets.
The Supplier Engagement Ranking 2021 report, elaborated in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group, points out that, in the past year, the suppliers of the larger companies have reduced their emissions by 1,800 tons of CO2, which is the equivalent of the annual operation of 454 coal-fired power stations.
In the construction industry, we have been recognized for engaging our supply chain and suppliers in our Climate Change Strategy.
Comprehensive management
Sacyr assumes the management of its supply chain as a crucial part of its responsibility for the sustainable development of its activities, respect for the environment, good corporate governance, regulatory compliance, health, promotion of diversity and inclusion, and respect for human rights. We establish the means by which to assess the risks and opportunities associated with the contracting, procurement and provision of supplies and services at the corporate and project levels, as well as the development of sustainable business relationships.
Demanding criteria
At Sacyr, we have a supply chain management policy with demanding requirements for our suppliers regarding work, environmental, social, human rights and anti-corruption policies. As part of this policy, we analyze the corrective measures necessary with the supplier and offer some guidelines to improve, or terminate the contract, if the infractions are repeated or especially serious. We can also have the supplier removed from the registry of authorized suppliers.
Recommendations and training actions
In 2021, we elaborated a Handbook on Recommendations for Green Purchases that compiles suggestions relating to the purchasing of more sustainable products and materials. Moreover, we provided training in sustainability to our suppliers by handing out our Best Practices Handbook, the training course that explains the guidelines in it, and other complementary training on waste management, water management, biodiversity care, etc. In 2021, we gave 53,475 hours of training to our suppliers, reaching 17,464 people.
