Sacyr launches Sacyr iChallenges 6, a new edition of its open innovation program

  • This program targets innovation agents worldwide: startups, scaleups, tech hubs, universities, innovation centers, or big corporations.
  • Open call from March 30 to May 18, 2023.
  • Selected projects will collaborate with Sacyr business experts to develop pilot tests in real life.

Today, Sacyr announced the launch of the 6th edition of its open innovation program, Sacyr iChallenges. This initiative encompasses innovation, technology, and cooperation to answer to three business challenges issued by Sacyr, in collaboration with members of the innovation community.

The program has a global reach and targets any innovation agent interested in providing disruptive and value-generating solutions to the challenges issued by Sacyr. The program is a gateway for startups, scaleups, tech hubs, universities, innovation centers or big corporations across the globe.

Any agents interested in participating must submit their proposals at Sacyr iChallenges before May 18.

“Sacyr iChallenges is an open window to the future to build, establish key relations and collaborate with the best talent in the innovation ecosystem. A live space to further promote new ideas to give an answer to our different business challenges. At Sacyr, we want to continue to generate synergies, share knowledge and develop new projects to revolutionize the world through innovation and sustainability”, said Marta Gil, Chief Strategy, Innovation and Sustainability Officer.

Sustainability, the main character of the new Sacyr iChallenges challenges

Sacyr iChallenges 6 focuses once again in promoting sustainability, a pivotal aspect of the 2021-2025 Sacyr Sustainable Action Plan. This edition of the program issues three challenges to answer to the following needs of the business units:

  • Linear infrastructure adaptation to new transport models. How to build, adapt and operate safer, more attractive, and better-prepared roads for a more sustainable and interconnective mobility?
  • New solutions to detect and monitor pollutants in water treatment facilities. How to optimize the detection and monitoring of priority and concern-raising pollutants in water treatment facilities?
  • Innovative solutions to anticipate a project’s design parameters: geotechnical campaigns, topography, bathymetry and object detection. How to obtain accurate and trust-worthy automated information in early project stages to design and build more efficiently while causing minimal impact?

Key dates and selection criteria

This Sacyr iChallenges 6 call is open until May 18 on the program website.

Once the deadline is closed, a committee of Sacyr professionals and experts will analyze all submissions in close cooperation with the company’s corporate innovation team.

The next stop is Focus Week, a meeting that gathers the pre-selected innovation agents and business experts to discuss and analyze the most viable solutions.

Afterwards, Sacyr will announce the selected proposals that will work hand in hand with mixed teams collaborating with Sacyr business experts and external agents to continue developing solutions.

Lastly, the program culminates with Sacyr Innovation Summit, an event that will take place in October at the company's headquarters in Madrid. The selected innovation agents will take part in in-person sessions to define pilot projects along with Sacyr experts and will have the opportunity to showcase their submissions to the company’s top management.

In addition, the Sacyr Foundation will recognize, as part of the 13th Edition of the Sacyr Innovation Awards, some of the solutions presented by the innovation community in Sacyr iChallenges.

Sacyr iChallenges, a benchmark agent in the innovation ecosystem

Across five editions, Sacyr iChallenges has received over 1,000 submissions to solve different challenges. Many solutions from more than 30 countries have helped position Sacyr iChallenges as an international benchmark innovation program.
